Welcome to Machines4Music

This is the home of the 0-BS turntable.
You can probably guess what that means! Suffice to say that no Unicorns were harmed in the making of it, no snakes were squeezed dry for their lubricant, and no new 'science' was invented.

My Story

HiFi and music has been a big part of my life from the moment at 12 years old I first plugged some headphones into my dad's Thorn EMI record player, and my own faltering steps a couple of years later with Amstrad separates and some Sennheiser 'yellow foam' headphones. Blimey, this was incredible!

I've been in Engineering in various forms for 40 years, starting out in Electronics after a long stint at college (HND back in the day) before moving on to Cambridge and a technician's job at A&R Cambridge (now Arcam) and the home of glorious devices such as the A60 amplifier, the C200 / SA200 high end pre / power (I still use them!) and the ground breaking 'designed for production' Arcam 1 amplifier.

The lure of a beach-side job took me to North West Wales to work for the MoD at Llanbedr Airfield, as part of the Target Drone service, where I learned all about Time Division Multiplexers and multi-tone control systems. Really cutting edge stuff for the day! Moving on the RADAR I had my first experiences of high power RF, extremely high voltages, non-ionising radiation etc - all that fun stuff that can kill you, or at least make your hair fall out if not treated with respect. Once I'd been prematurely aged by that, I moved to the Engineering Development section, where I got to design the stuff that controlled our aeroplanes, or allowed communications between the people who did. All grteat fun, and there was a beach nearby!

Scroll forward to 2000, and I find myself in  Malvern after a transfer with MoD, to work on far more specialied aviation systems, which I won't go into here, and then in 2007, when they decided to relocate to the 'Sarf Coast' I decided to stay put and blagged a job in EMC with a company who'd just relocated to Malvern! EMC = RF, and I knew RF from my RADAR and comms days - how difficult could it be?

So, that's where I am now, though I decided that life's too short so am now part time with them. My current role is as 'Technical Authority' for Military and Aerospace EMC, which is about as esoteric as you can get in the Electronics field!
